Compete

The World Cigar Sommelier Competition (WCSC) is a global competition organized by the International Association of Cigar Sommeliers (IACS) in which contestants test their abilities as professionals of the cigar experience.

What will be put on test:

General knowledge: Depth of understanding regarding the history, production and farming processes and characteristics of cigars.
Organoleptic skills: Ability to accurately describe and perceive sensory characteristics of the cigars.
Service: Required skills to offer exceptional service, such as cutting, lighting and providing pairing recommendations.
Pairing proficiency: Capability to suggest harmonious gourmet pairings with cigars and other gourmet products such as wines, spirits, coffee or food.

Who can participate:

Individuals who hold a Sommelier, Habanos Sommelier or Cigar Sommelier tittle from any academic institution
Food and Beverages professionals who hold or have hold a Sommelier or Cigar Sommelier job, regardless of their educational background
Brand ambassadors or any other professional currently working in the Cigar Industry

Competition rules:

Register your interest in the link of each classification event (keep in mind that by registering in one event, you waive the opportunity to participate in other cities until next year)
You will receive an email with the instructions to make an exam. This will open at a specific time and date.
Those selected to proceed to the second round will receive an email requesting them to record a video introducing themselves following certain guidelines.
Some participants will be chosen for the final round. This will be held in person in different cities (Note: participation in the contest does not cover transportation and/or accommodation costs)
During the in-person event, blind tastings, pairing proposals, and service skills will be evaluated by a group of juries.
The winner of each classification events will get a pass to the World Contest (whose venue is yet to be determined).
